I'm referring to a quality bender. None of that harbor freight style junk.

tell me about this magical die i can put in my $100 Hf pipe bender.
a tubing bender "pulls" the tube as it bends, resulting in a nice, clean bend without kinking. one of those bottle jack pipe benders just put pressure on the tube in one spot, often kinking it, and putting small dents where the "rollers" rested.

You dont have to fill with sand either, you modify the HF ones on how they hold the pipe. Ill find a video on it at home later.

damn i didn't think i would get this response lol.
well i am 92xjguy's buddy looking for a bender and i like the harbor freight bender bc the 3 reviews on there and national tool are 5 stars of guys that built there cages with this bender i am looking at the 12 ton. i am willing to spend 200 to 300 on a bender if you have any that are better then send them over.
so i guess i am going with DOM but can i do and 1.50 x .120 bc i want to save space and be able to have some cargo space left.
i found a cage that has some like 1/4 inch plate up front in between the door and the dash so it is kinda hidden and i like the idea but just want to here your thoughts on it i will try and find a pic of it
Also i am looking into doing the rocker replacement with that i am going to use 3 x 4 x 1/4 tubing for that and then i want to tie it into the frame. i was thinking of makeing the tie in's with 3 x 6 x 1/4 so then place them on each pilar and have the cage sent through the floor and tied into that and also i am going to reconfigure the floor to allow this.
i want to go out and take some rough measurements but it is raining out here is chicago.

I can't seem to find the Harbor Freight mod video, but iirc all the guy did was took some bigger tube and cut it to go between the tube he was bending and the bender so that it held the tube down in the die and kept the bender from kinking it and eliminated it's tendency to push the tube up out of the die.
My uncle has a bender similar to the one below he built and it's never kinked tube because he didn't go cheap on the die. Cheap to build other than the die. It does require you to be able to weld right and not just burn metal together though. Last thing you want is the bottle jack ripping the frame apart. I've got a bunch of 2x2x.25 square tube laying around, this will probably be my next welding project.
