'88 Cherokee 4x4, 4DR for sale
Got a newer '96 model so looking to sell my old '88 Cherokee base model that has bad engine. It's a white 4x4,4DR with I6 and auto and straight body. It still runs but leaks oil like crazy(guessing rear seal and valve cover) and have to keep foot on gas to keep it going most of time. Also spit sludge into air filter. Was having problems with coolant reservoir cap not holding and letting coolant out and it overheated one day. Other than coolant reservoir problem, it ran good before then. Solid tranny, 4x4 works, transfer case and diffs are good also.
Interior pretty good other than the following. Drivers seat sags and needs to be replaced. Passenger seat needs recovering or cover. Has vinyl/rubber floor like some pickups instead of carpet and is torn in a few spots and large worn spot in front of pedals. All panels/trim in good shape except missing front kick panel on passenger side. Still has factory jack and bar under rear seat.
Exterior good for age also. It's straight and never been wrecked from what I can tell. Paint is pretty good on sides and back. Top and hood are faded and have some surface rust in spots. Couple of small dings here and there. Rusted through spot about 1" wide by 8-10" long on underside in passenger side footwell area. Front passenger side & all of drivers side is fine. One spot on rear passenger side panel that looks like tire carrier swung around and hit it and someone tried to beat dent out. Has a little rust there also, but is only rust spot on sides or back that I can think of at moment.
As mentioned, it has a factory rear spare tire carrier thats in good shape. I also had purchased a new custom aluminum coolant reservoir to replace plastic one, but have not installed it yet but will include it with sale. It's still in box and paid around $140.00 for it. Has all proper nipples, radiator cap and even has the nubs on back that fit in the groves on factory mounting bracket.
Might try to see if I can swap the tire carrier over to the '96, but if not able or someone makes me an offer I can't refuse before I get around to it, so be it.
Not sure what It's worth so will just start out saying $500 OBO. NEED TO SELL ASAP!! I am in Greenville, SC and so is the vehicle.

Forgot to mention, tires are bald as s**t. In fact, front passenger tire won't hold air for more than a a few days when sitting, less when driven.
With exception of engine and tires, it is overall a good solid XJ that with a little work would make a good driver or trail rig. I was thinking of just keeping it and replacing engine but I like the interior of newer models and the cooling system on these drives me nuts so figured I'd see if was anything else out there before fixing this one.

LOL!!!
I know what you mean, I went back and forth from here to NC 3 times and drove to Atlanta once to look at a couple last week in the hunt for a replacement for my '89 that was totaled.
**Will try and post those pics you asked for here tomorrow after I get some new batteries for my camera.

Mileage is 215, 850. Sorry, I usually don't worry much about mileage on vehicles cause found over the years it doesn't mean much. Have seen some pieces of junk with under 80,000 and others with 2-300,000 that were top notch. Just a matter of how they're taken care of.
Well, I need to get it gone, so if no one claims it by this weekend or pinky swears to buy it within a reasonable amount of time, I might call scrapyards and see what I can get for it first of next week.
