Exclamation 99 XJ Passenger REAR seat belt w/retractor

Hey folks. Getting close to having my XJ build road-ready. One item that I recently noticed is that the passenger side REAR seat belt retractor is not working. The seat belt is pulled all the way out and does not retract at all. I tried using one out of my donor 96 XJ, but the buckles are different.

If anybody has a 99 that they are parting out please let me know if you have the passenger side REAR seat belt w/retractor!

Thank you!

So I don't know if this would help but I came across this while aimlessly poking around in internet land. LOL.
I booked marked it cause I grabbed a couple in one of the Jeep part outs I raided from Craigslist.
And betting that I let the spool wind up the seat belt when I did just like he says to not let happen in the video.
Not sure if this is your problem but if so shows how to fix it around 3:50 in the video.

Thank you for the info! Unfortunately I'm having the opposite issue. The seat belt is currently all the way OUT, and will not retract. That is, there is like 8' of loose seat belt material just sitting on the seat that would normally be retracted into the spool. I have tapped on the retractor, played with it, jerked the belt numerous times...no go. The retractor is dead, probably some broken spring in there.

Yeah should have paid more attention to what you wrote. LOL.
What color is the interior in the Jeep?

Grey cloth. Don't even care about the color, its all about function!

It is not the cloth but the slotted plastic piece on top of the cargo area plastic that the seat belt comes out of.
A couple of the part outs I found on Craigslist have been a pay $200 and pretty much take anything you want.
From one I took a whole mess of interior plastic leather seats front and back with a driver's side power seat base, the harness,
the overhead, the overhead headliner, the harness, the whole cruise control power steering column with the actuator from the engine
compartment, speakers, Limited door panels, and a bunch of other stuff.
I grabbed the seat belts to. One of the reasons was cause I like having extra parts for instances just like yours.
But more importantly I saw that I could not figure out how to get that slotted plastic piece off the seat belt.
Best I could tell it is put on before the seat belt is assembled. And Camel is a color you don't see as much.
At least I don't. Everything is Agate so....
And mine was retracted all the way but by holding it in the proper position got it to unreel so pulled it all out and tied it off.
So I did not have to take the cover off like in the video. See if I get lucky with the other one. LOL.

Yup...I offered him $30 for it.

With that said, I should be all set. If there is an issue/it falls through I will post here again if I still need one.
