when replacing the head do you need to adjust the valves?

The one design fault with the 4.0 is you CAN'T adjust the valves. That's why it rattles after the lifters get a little worn and won't hold the lash tight at idle. IDK if previous posts have shown this picture of the "TUPY" head or not, but here goes. Notice the "0331" at the top of the picture also. The Clearwater has no markings that I've found. There's a melt tag on the back of it. Melts at 260* Overheating voids the warranty.

Just wanted to add the Tupy Foundry in Brazil uses the same identical molds Chrysler uses but added a lot more nickel in the pour so it's more flexible. Clearwater adds more metal to the top of the head around the valve pockets and actually weighs 7 pounds more than the stock 0331 head. Shipping weight was 95 lbs. The old head's shipping weight was 78 lbs.

What's up guys..

Well... My 2001 with 115,000 miles recently started experiencing coolant loss, no external leaks. An easy find, opened the oil cap and sure enough, you can see a river of coolant making it's way into the motor. I've likely gone through about 1 gallon of coolant before locating such. Both my oil and transmission fluid look fine though.. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Raz

Which is the preferred replacement head and/or are there any other needed parts for completion? I've taken exceptional care of her, sucks to have such a problem. Aiming for longevity here..

DON'T DRIVE IT!!!

If you didn't notice a drop in oil pressure, you may be OK, but don't drive it - that coolant kills the engine and then you're looking at a new block as well as head.

Call up clearwater (the recommended brand) https://www.cylinder-heads.com/ and get a replacement head.

Thanks, not driving her. I've sent the oil for analysis. Just can't make sense of why the oil shows no sign of being milky after losing about a gallon of coolant though the motor?? I'll give Clearwater a ring, thanks..

Maybe you have a high level of water in the coolant or something like that. Since you can see the coolant pouring into the oil, you know the head is bad and needs to be replaced.

Default TUPY 0331

Hey Guys,

Decided to pass on Clearwater after reading their reviews, as well as finding they want $620 shipped for everything.

The good news, I did a bot more searching and to my surprise I found a local shop who remanufactures the TUPY #0331 Head who sells them on Ebay. They sell forr $425 with head bolts and gasket! After reading their glowing reviews, I decided to take the 20 min drive to check them out. Met with Dale who was a true gentleman. He answered all my questions and was kind enough to walk me around the shop, really something! Couldn't be happier. Looking forward to the install..

I would deal with the guy just because of the picture of the car he has on his website. LOL. He has great taste in cars IMO. That is a '70 Pontiac Grand Prix. My first car, car not a 4X4 (or that was not a hand me down), was a '69 Grand Prix. Now that is a car. 400 cubic inches with a 4 barrel. Turbo 400 tranny. Dual exhaust. Not a muscle car in the traditional sense but still had some get up and go.

Thanks for all this info RAZMO. Just joining the 0331 club. I have an '01 120k miles and just discovered the low coolant issue. Looking into option now.
