Continuing on with the 02 sensor idea...
As I stated earlier the wires coming from the clip on the engine/computer side (not sensor side) of the upstream(front) 02 sensor are bare, and possibly rubbing. The wire insulation has either melted / desintegrated and there is about 1/4 inch of bare wire on 3 of the 4 wires DIRECTLY out of the clip.
How would I remedy this? Can you hardwire the 02 sensors? Are the clips able to be taken apart and new connectors put on like some harness connectors? I have a few places like this where the wires coming from clips are bare and possibly rubbing. The CPS (already fixed and soldered) the cam pos. sensor and the upstream(front) 02 sensor.

Permanent fix is to splice in a new connector (if you can find one) by soldering the wires together (don't forget to heat shrink the joints).
If you suspect that those wires short circuited, check the "O2S RELAYS" fuse in the PDC.

AZSnake:
So mine was dying while driving down the road and throwing the 1391 code, replaced the CKS with an Echlin brand, not fixed, replaced the CPS, not fixed, replaced the ASD, not fixed. Took it to a local garage where they put it on their scanner and it told them the new CPS had to be "re-learned", basically timed. Mine was at 22 degrees and supposed to be at Zero. This has to be done with the scanner, no old school timing lights! Hope this is the answer to your problem. I did a lot of research on a lot of forums and never found this as an answer, but so far so good for my '01 Cherokee.

the return line in the fuel pump has a bladder valve on it. Id bet this little 39 cent nitemare is shot. It lets extra' fuel back into the tank but no air out.
