Update

Did a warranty on the sender and replaced the pigtail connector.

No more check gauges!

Good deal.
Does the cluster read about what the mechanical gauge did?

It does!

I would like something higher. Do you recommend a 15-40 to increase pressure?

I just run what is supposed to be in there.
Other guys will have to chime in about that.

You said you are running about 13-14 psi at HOT idle. That is fine. What is your oil pressure over 1600 rpms?

Oil pressure spec for the 4.0:

*Not less than 13 psi at HOT idle
*Between 37-75 psi over 1600 rpms

Hey sorry to hijack but what triggers the check engine light for low oil pressure? My 2000 always ..well since I bought it...comes on once pressure goes to 20psi on a hot idle.I have replaced sending unit with a Mopar one and replaced the wiring connector also using my mechanical gauge it also reads the same. Does it come from the gauge reading or sending unit.

My 2000 with 132k reads just about 60psi at 70MPH....I think.

Do you mean check gauges or check engine?

I did not have any check engine lights just gauges

You are on the low end of the spec but you are fine. I would not recommend changing oil viscosity. Enjoy your XJ!

I have a qt of marvel mystery oil in there atm, could that also lower my pressure?

I own an '00 and had been meaning to throw a mechanical gauge on it for the longest time. Just to see. Am not having any problems.
So I figured I would rig this up and also lets me see how the mechanical gauge reading corresponds with the cluster gauge reading.
22 lbs at a hot idle and the the mechanical gauge and cluster gauge are in sync for the most part.
If you want the part numbers for exactly what I used let me know.

That is a great idea, if you don't mind I'd love to have the part #s

Don't go to a 15W-40. If you're worried about hot oil pressures, maybe go to 10W-40. A bit over simplified, but basically the 10W describes the viscosity when cold (0*C), and the 40 is when hot (100*C). So for a hot oil pressure, just increase the second number.

Sweet! always a relief to know u got oil pressure haha. My 4.7 was different story, when the oil pressure fell to zero it threw a rod haha.

How about a 5w40? I see t6 is that weight.
