15 bucks saved my motor!
I recently replaced my thermostat with a FAILSAFE 7200-195 and am thankful I did. Unlike normal t-stats, when the engine gets too dangerous heat levels the FAILSAFE locks open allowing coolant to flow freely. My e-fan motor took a crap while driving and I noticed the temp gauge was rising, then like it was designed the FAILSAFE locked open and temp went down to around 150 and stayed there, saving my head and motor. Pulled the thermostat out and sure enough it's locked open still. So I paid the 15bucks and replaced it with another cuz as we all know better to cool than too hot.

The efan would not make a difference if the tstat is stuck closed.
Stant Super stat has my vote. I was using a pos one from Murray's and it liked to stay open even with coolant temps below 160*. Made for some craptastic heat.

it locks open at 235-245 degrees. Too cool is a whole lot easier to deal with than too hot, especially when you are tryin to get it home to the garage to fix it. No the clips can't be reset, but why would you want too use a t-stat that,s been cooked like that? Better just to replace it. New to this forum yes, new to jeeps, no. I'm on my 9th jeep, 3rd xj.

You are absolutely right. That's why I went with one that doesn't lock closed. Craptastic heat I can deal with til it gets replaced, cooked head and motor I can't deal with. Just remember like all other t-stats, stant locks closed when it gets too hot, cooking your engine. FAILSAFE don't.
