Do you have power to the + coil terminal in both "run" and "start"?

Spark plugs gapped correctly? With severely out of gap plugs, it wont start.
Grounds? Good engine block to firewall ground must be achieved.
Battery full?

Properly gapped and clean points + condenser if it still has those.

Proper dwell.

Plug wires + coil wire.

Got any pics so we can see what were fixin man??

I'd recommend following every wire involved with the starting of your vehicle and looking for irregularities.

I once spent 2 months figuring out a simple fusible link/starter solenoid problem on a ford taurus didnt look around enough before diving in and buying parts for this guy. Shotgun fixes never work out all tha well

I think they were still using the Prestolite ignition/alternator setup back then with a sensor of some sort and ignition module. Good luck finding parts that work...they were nasty when new, lol.

My first Jeep, bought new, was a 1978 Renegade CJ-7 with a 304 V-8 and QuadraTrac. I never had to mess with the ignition. 1975 was probably when they were changing over to solid state but Jeep is not usually the first to do anything.

I would get wiring diagram.
Coils usually have 2 wires. One is12V,
Another 0 or 12V, depending on contacts position.

Good call. Actually a simple test light should do.
Ground clip on battery +, probe coil + terminal with key on. If the light comes on, there's power.
Then move the ground clip to the battery - and probe the - coil terminal. Light should blink while cranking, indicating the module is trying to fire the coil.
If the light stays on the module or sensor is bad.
If the light stays off the coil primary winding is open.
If the light blinks and there is no spark, the coil secondary is bad.

Right you are. I don't see where the ignition module was replaced though.
Not much left assuming there is power to the coil.
