Check the plugs for fouling, check the distributor cap + rotor + wires too. Also check the ignition coil for any cracking or anything wrong.
Could also be the upstream O2 sensor. Unless the cat is clogged, I doubt it is causing an issue on your 87 - only the upstream o2 sensor affects engine tuning

She also needed new fuel injectors too.
they weren't "misting"...they were pushing a steady flow..like someone who hadn't peed in a couple of hours! So trying to find those....😒

JHC7399 here on CF provides refurbished ones for very reasonable $.
My parents' term for that was : "like a cow pissin on a flat rock".
