1988 XJ: Oil light mystery
Hello all, my automatic 1988 XJ Pioneer 4.0 has a few problems (shocking, I know).
Most notable is that sometimes, in the first 10 minutes of driving, the oil light will come on if I am accelerating. it will only be dimly lit if I am lightly accelerating, and it will be off when my foot is off the pedal.
I am certain that there is enough oil, and that it is clean. After a while the problem goes away and all is normal.
Any thoughts?

Do understand that it's an Oil Pressure light, not an Oil Level light... Does your XJ have the oil pressure gauge in the cluster or just the light? You should try an aftermarket pressure gauge before making too many assumptions...

what brand of oil filter are you using? Last oil change?
When you chack the oil, smell the dipstick for a gasoline smell.
