Default 1989 Cherokee Laredo Questions

Hey guys. Me again. We got the problem with the transmission in our '93 XJ sorted out. Not sure what it was since I didn't work on it.

Now, my brother has an '89 Laredo. 4.0L Renix mated to the AW-4. Dana 30 CAD front and 35 rear. Three questions about it.

First, will an HO intake manifold bolt onto AND work properly on a RENIX engine? Anything to be aware of that may cause problems?

Second, the Dana 30 CAD front axle. The axle is NOT engaging when it is dropped into 4WD, High or Low. Yes, the POWER switch is on when it's put in 4. Could we just swap in a regular 30? Should just bolt right up, correct?

Finally, I read on the Budget Build thread that Dodge Neon injectors will fit Cherokees. True or no? Any improvements when using them?

EDIT: Forgot another problem with it. Has an erratic idle. Bounces anywhere between 500 to 1000 rpm, even when warm. Maybe Idle Air Control, if equipped?

Neon injectors should work, as far as your 4x4 are you positive its the axle or could it be the tc? It is possible to bypass the vacuum on the axle. There are write up's for that. If you aren't sure if it's axle or tc put the front tires in the air and spin both by hand. If the front ds spins with the tires I believe that would point to a tc issue not a front diff issue.

Yeah, we've had it up in the air and the driveshaft doesn't spin. It does spin when it's in gear and in 4WD. Just no front tire rotation

This should fix your D30 in about 1/2 hour:

There is no advantage to switching to an HO intake manifold and TPS works opposite. Are you looking for performance? If so, just get a bored throttle body from www.strokedjeep.com.

There are members on thid forum that provide upgrade injectors.
I thought I saved their info but can't find it now. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

^^^this works but only if your pads on the fork are in good shape. "how do you know?"...well my pads were worn out allowing the collar to partially slide off of the inner axle shaft. it broke the fork. Tried it again with a 'fresher' cad with better pads from the jy. works good so far.

i got ford 19 pounders on ebay for $60 canadian. cleaned and tested. they work awesome on my renix.
