1989 Jeep cherokee slow door locks and windows
Hi all,
I am brand new to this forum. I figured it's time to join after owning a 1989 Cherokee XJ for the past 10 years. Anyway, I was wondering is anyone knows anything about slow power windows and very slow/ barely moving electronic door locks. All the window and door locks on my jeep are extremely slow. My buddy was telling me that I have to replace motors and everything, but I feel like it could be lack of power getting to the doors. Has anyone had this issue before with an 89 cherokee? All locks and windows do move, but it's almost like they are only getting 10% power.
Thanks for the help! (below are a few pics of my jeep)

On my 87, I had the same issues and solved them without any new part.
Basics
- Improved grounds
- clean connectors
then
- blow and clean all mechanisms
- adequate grease
then
- use specific slider silicon grease into the rails (helps a lot)
- slightly unbolt the mounting of the window mechanisms and re-adjust them while operating the windows. Bolt when they operates more easily.
Last advice. Very important IMO.
- add whatever you want to prevent the window from going too much down. I added foam, maintained by hose clamps on the main rail.
The main issue is when they go too low. So simply prevent them from going too low.

Welcome! Nice rig!
What Euro said, but I will add:
Clean all the electrical contacts with CRC Contact Cleaner. You won't go wrong with any CRC product.
Clean the lock mechanisms (not just the electric actuator) by spraying very liberally with a good penetrating oil (no, not WD-40) such as PB Blaster or Deep Creep. It does not hurt at all to remove the mechanism from the door before cleaning.
When I say "liberally", I mean, if you use up an entire big can on all 4 doors, that's not too much. Then follow up with a light lubricant. I've been impressed with a fairly new (to me, at least) garage door lubricant from PB Blaster. Seems to work very well.
It needs to be something that will get IN there (so white lithium grease probably isn't it), but will hang around. I also use white lithium grease to hit the visible parts that engage with the door, once I have it re-installed.
If that doesn't get you running like new, you probably need to replace the lock actuators and the window motors.

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1874 Has anyone ever heard of this Greg Smith mod? If all else fails you guys think I should give this a try? Not really sure how to do this though.

Any help on how to do the mod? I found the original naxja thread, but am having a hard time making heads or tails of it. (Admittedly, I haven’t done much electrical work on the jeep.)
Any detailed instruction (maybe even a pic or two), would be appreciated!
