Default 1989 Jeep Cherokee stalling problem Video

I had a problem with occasional stalling so I unplugged and replugged the TPS and CPS. Since then it will stall sometimes then catch and die for 15 minutes or so until it runs again. Check out the videos

https://youtu.be/1ZIDQEfz1Lk

I have:
Replaced CPS
Replaced TPS
Replaced fuel filter

Its still getting worse

Any ideas?

Have you pulled the engine trouble codes? I don't know if that's possible on an 89, but if it is, that's the place to start.

Take a look at Cruiser54's Renix tips.

Also, what brand did you use for your replacements? These beasts are very picky when it comes to sensors. Aftermarket brands are famous for failing out of the box, or within hours, days, or weeks.

Have you tested your Cam Position Sensor? It's in the distributor, and will give symptoms very much like the Crank Position Sensor.

I've done cruisers tips, CPS has .6ohms ground resistance.

TPS is duralast
CPS is napas echlin brand

Although little things improved and the TPS symptoms I was having went away, the problem hasn't changed at all. These symptoms aren't the same as when my CPS failed before.

I will check out the Camshaft position sensor thank you

Normally, NAPA's Echlin brand is good quality, but not for our Cherokees. You need the dealer part to be sure. NGK/NTK only.

It has no camshaft sensor. You can unplug that sensor in the distributor on a Renix and likely not see or feel a difference.

Make sure your intake manifold bolts are not loosening up.

How long since new plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

ever clean the throttle body and IAC?

Oh ok. I will check the intake manifold bolts it has overheated recently.

New champion copper plugs 2 years ago and new cap and rotor 4 years ago. It has never had new wires.

Throttle body was just cleaned and the IAC is a $12 part from amazon maybe I should look at that.

It seems to act up much more when it's cold

Should have wires every 30,000 miles. Replace them.

I replaced the wires.

I think what did it was cutting out the old weatherpack to the CPS and soldering it in.

Thanks for the input cruiser

So, cutting out the old weather-pac and soldering caused, or solved, the problem?

Likely it did!! This is why I advocate completing tip 2 right off the bat.
