Installed the new TPS. Got 4.94 volts going in and .82 going out.
Took it for a short drive and things seemed fine, even with the A/C on on the return drive.
I will get back to you on how it runs. This might take a few days, since I have other rides to drive.
Thanks for all of the help, I appreciate this very much.
Later.

Remember that the IAC is a solinoid that moves a shaft in and out so it needs a good ground. There are two T-15 torqs screws that hold it on. Those can vibrate loose and cause an intermittent loss of ground or an increase in resistance. They need to be periodiclly tightened. Do not use lock-tite thread locker on them. The plug is a weather tight sealing type and needs to be tightly sealed when plugged in too. All the above will cause surging. The A/C being on causes a little more vibration thus more chance for a bad ground to rear it's ugly head. HTH.

Default I'am back again.

I have been test driving the Cherokee since I installed the TPS. When I drive without the air conditioning on the Cherokee does fine, except that the idle speed is about 200 rpm's higher.
I removed the IAC and cleaned it, but the idle still creeps up when the engine warms up.
I looked for vacuum line leaks, but these all look fine. I did notice the smell of old fuel near the fuel vapor canister though.
Any thoughts on these problems would be appreciated.
I think the old Cherokee wants to retire to the backyard and become a dog house for the dogs.

Default creeping idle

Ive got a 87 xj limited, all renix and wouldnt have it any other way. I just had a few issues and mine xj is at 208k. Had surgining, and trans shifting issues. The TPS also has a great deal to do with the shift points as well as controlling throttle plate feedback. Renix systems as well as all other systems Does raise the idle when the AC is turned on to compensate for the drag that the Compressor puts on the system. Its normal for you to get a higher idle when engaging the AC.

How is your fuel milage? Does the trans seem to shift fine? Have you checked your fuel pressure? ....
I had a hell of a time chasing down the surge demon on mine and did the whole TB clean out, IAC solenoid, Tps adjustments and switched it out for another boneyard part. 2 weeks of going over everything with a fine tooth comb and drivability got worse, Trans wouldnt shift right, no power and couldnt get above 2k rpm.

In my case after stepping back for a day and reading a bit, Turns out these motors do not like alot of backpressure and hearing a rattle in the area of the catylitic converter, I promptly seperated the cat from the header pipe. The jeep ran fine with open exhaust. Cat was clogged causing the surging and drivablility issues along with shifting problems.

Betsy never gave any indication of overheating (changed the cooling system to an open system from a donor 97) and after sensor replacements, Fuel pump, Fuel filter, Fuel Regulator, New IAC, NEW TPS, CRank Sensor it all came down to the amount of back pressure in the exhaust system.

Have your fuel pressure checked. Chech your hard vacuum lines especially the map sensor and any in the area of the TB(throttle body) for hairline cracks. Utilize a vacuum guage to check vacuum state. Check your EGR Valve Function.

Renix systems can get a little goofy under some conditions and let us know what you find... it helps us all when people share their findings.

no from what i can tell the tps is ur issue and its held buy 2 torx bolts loose the top one for slight calabration and if heavy cal is needed loosen the bottom and move sensor position 2 the left or right till the idle increases if u can even get the 20 year old froozen bolts loose without snapping them off even if its not the tps id replace the tps anyways like im gonna do as there was a recall on 89-90 4.0's with the tps which would cause sudden racing high starting idle and racing while in drive . ive noticed ill put my car in drive and it will just take off do like 5 mph in my driveway and my brakes were bad so i almost hit another car and swerved

ive already replaced plugs wires cap oil filter fuel filter and add some new gas with stabl in the tank ive put a new vaccum harness kit in so none are dry crackedor leaking oil has been changed the only connection that feels bad is from the pcv line the rubber elbow is loose on the side near the vaccum lines housing not the motor block. The tps which i belive is held buy 2 torx bolts can be moved to the left or right to adjust idol ive herd i just snapped a bolt cuz i dident use that blaster oil to free em up first so i basicly sprayed some carb cleaner on the throttle cable area and allover the tps and now it seems like it dont wanna start even more takes longer to start now but the idle rpm will be at 1000k for a min then drop down and do its trick 600k then 200k back to 600 then 200k then almost die and back up to 600k. before id start my jeep and it would be at like 1500 rpm for 20 seconds then drop real low almost wanna die then be at 600k then drop and come back. i actually got it to idle at 1000k for over 20 seconds at startup more like a min and all i did was snapp a bolt and spray carb cleaner around so idk im confused at theres aint no idiot lights on but the thing runs like shiitt

I have a 89 jeep Cherokee when I go to stay it up it idles around 1000 but after a few minutes it bogges down and acts like it wants to die I replaced the throttle body censor, and the intake air control censor but it's still acting like it wants to die any thought would be great

First off, welcome.

I would begin by doing Tips 1,3,4, and 5 in my Pink Link below.

I would check your egr valve. try this the vaccum line that goes from the top of the motor the one on the top of the head with a grommit take the other end of it halfway off and try driving around and see if your jeep magicly runs and drives better wouldent hurt
