1990 Cherokee Interchangeable Parts
Hey, new to this forum, I just bought a 1990 Cherokee Pioneer manual transmission.
There are some cosmetic projects that I want to complete. As a general rule of thumb, what other model years would be most compatible with my 1990 Cherokee?
Also is it better to try and find parts from private sellers/junkyards? Or order parts online?
Thank you!

there are many slight differences between 84 and 96. you should be able to see most differences if you are looking for direct fit.
you can use any year headliner from 84 to 01. seats up to 94 is a direct fit. you can weld in the floor brace to fit newer seats and grand cherokee seat swaps.
you can swap out the front header, fenders and mirrors with 97+.
another mod is a newer brake booster/master to get better braking. any dual diaphragm booster will work with a bit of grinding/reaming work to fit the brake switch.
you will notice a slight difference if you were to swap out the grille/headlight trim from 90 to 91, but still fit.
dash cluster swap from large fuel gauge to tach is common.
difference in brake caliper mounts from 89 to 90 just so you know.
and 86 has those cool rocker seat mounts...

Hi Y'all I'm new.
Wow Caged you know so much!!
Hi, I have a 1996 V8 Grand Cherokee Limited. Is it XJ? Or which letters? What is that? What years and models of Jeep can I put this car's parts on....mechanical, not just cosmetic. THANK YOU!!

98 was the only year where there were 3 engine options. a 4.0L, 5.2L (V8) and the rare 5.9L (V8)
yours being a V8 would most likely have the quadra trac all wheel drive (np249) transfer case and the D44a rear axle.
you will need to look for mostly any 93 through 98 ZJ body parts and only those with a V8 for engine/driveline parts and sensors.
