Thanks, thought I read in the Mitchell something about gear oil, must have had to do with something else.

i would just swap that whole front axle assembly with one from either a 95-99, or one from any xj with 242 select track jeep with abs. therefor you get the non disco axle with the larger u-joints. this is what i did with my 90. never looked back since.
