When you say fix the steering column, mine wags back and forth like a fat guy hung on it for 20 years (its a 91 and i just bought it last week) Would this bolt thing you mentioned fix that? If so, I would be very happy.

The radio and cluster trim just pops off very easily. remove the two screws above the cluster and start pulling. You'll eventually get the whole thing off.
I've seen some people get some pretty good results using the rattle can clear coat lightly and then wet sanding with 1500 then 2000 grit and polishing after.

And yeah, mine used to have about 6" of play up and down...felt like the tilt was broken. It's a pretty common issue. And yeah it just means there are about four bolts inside of there that are loose. Here's the thread I figured out how to do it off of. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/lo...t-broke-13641/

And yeah, I just need to find a donor XJ with the same trim cluster that I can grab that stuff off of.

Oh my god, it would be easier to swap a whole new column. Not to mention I have no idea where to find the little pin remover thingy.

I think I realized that after I had finished. hahahaha! It's just a pin pulley, we had a dozen or so in our shop. Head over to AdvancedAuto and just ask one of the guys at the counter about it and they should be able to help you. I think they're like $10 or something.

There was a recall on several paints used by Chrysler. My '91 was (about ten years ago) repainted because the silver paint was flaking off. But I would repaint the org. color. It's a lot easier. Looks better, should you ever sell. Other wise, you have to tape off all the door jams, Under the hood cowl, etc.. Just prime the bad spots. And feather them out. Should take about 1 1/2 gal. & 1/2 gal. of clear. And there are write -ups on here about wing window replacement. Use Centuri paint. There is four screws holding the dash on. I'd also paint the mirrors, and bumpers my self. They did offer the mono chromatic paint scheme. Here's a pic of mine, with it. Attachment 31323

I've given that a lot of consideration before, but the problem is that the Jeep is down to the bare metal in a lot of spots. The clear coat is fading on the sides, the hatch still has a lot of it's clear coat, but the hood and the roof are 100% bare metal. This thing sat, parked with the last owner for two years and was driven a total of three times in those two years. There's a bit of roof rust and some door handle rust so I need to straighten out all of the body anyways. I don't want to cut any corners. I'll probably remove all the doors to get the door jams properly. I'm growing fond of the idea of rustoleum as well because I have a buddy in a local Mustang club who roll-on painted his '89 Fox Body with $150 worth of Rustoleum and has won car shows with that sucker. If done right, it can really look good.

I'm going to leave the mirrors chrome and the bumpers chrome, but the bumper caps will be sanded and painted accordingly.

Thank you for telling me about the write-ups on the wing window, I need that done fast. I'll be searching asap.

Yeah, I kind of experimented removing the trim yesterday, it's a breeze. I just need a donor jeep now for both the wing window and the trim.
