Exclamation 1993 jeep cherokee power windows

Hi, i have a 1993 jeep cherokee sport and nun of my windows work,me and my grandpa tried to bypass the switches and run power directly to the window motor. when we routed a live wire to the motor nothing happened my grandpa thought it would have at least made a sound or a click but nothing happened. Then we tried to run the power to the window box in the back seat on the driver side and we again did the bypass on the switch and nothing happened :h elp::hel p:

(P.S its my first vehicle and i must say i love my jeep cherokee!!)

In my '88 there is a circuit breaker in the fuse box... Maybe you have one (or are supposed to) and its missing or toasted. It's a 30 amp I believe. About 3/8"x1 1/4" silver color. Rectangle.

Well if you ran hot and a good ground to the motor and nothing happened the the motors went bad (wow all 4?) when you put good power and ground directly to the motor and nothing happens you have succesfully bypassed any kind of relay/fuse in the system.

Grab a multimeter and see if you have power when the switch is depressed. Another thing is the window regulator in jeeps have an inherint issue with going bad from dirt or lack of lube. Try and disconect the motor from all the linkage and see if it works. if it does then either grease the regulator or buy a new one.

If the window motor (regulator) works, And the fuse is OK. Take your meter and check both sides of the door switch. power going in to the switch, and out when activated. The wires tend to break inside that rubber sleeve between the door and body. Also the switches are known to go bad. While the doors are apart, replace the plastic linkage end clips on the lock connecting rods. They get brittle and break, and new ones are really cheap. (Can get them at Auto zone) And so you don't have to take the door apart again, replace those crappy factory speakers in the doors. If you have them.

first of all. Did they all stop working all at once or one at a time? Not very likely that all 4 of the motors went out at the same time.

The (regulator) has the motor mounted into it. The (regulator) is the pulley/cable/track system that lets the window up or down. He also said that him and G-Dad ran a hot to the motor completely bypassing anything else in the circuit.

I experienced the same problem with my 2000 Limited. Posts on the problem on this forum suggested wiring issues and I looked at the wiring harness between the driver's door switch and the kick panel as suggested. Seeing no obvious signs of wear or damage on the outer protective sleeve so I assumed there were no issues with the wiring. I tested everything else and wasted a lot of time. But, when it came down to the last straw I pulled the wiring harness out of the door and found seven wires broken and disconnected. That harness carries the power for all your windows through the master switch. If they all stopped working you have broken wires inside that loom.

So you are saying its indubitable that thats his issue? If you read whats being said instead of just randomly throwing out fixes to issues you obviously only have one experience with and preaching it like the gospel, try giving advise before rip apart redo advice.

Wow, Buddy! Chill out. I never stated that was my only experience with jeep windows, You did. "If you read whats being said" I wrote I fixed mine a couple of years ago.He has 4 dead window motors, Possible but what are the odds. (He didn't say, Whether they worked or not, when he got the XJ. Also never stated, He was positive He had power going into the driver's door) "try giving advise before rip apart" He already said, he try-ed the drivers front and rear window motors. With direct power leads. (I assumed the door panels where off to do this.) I myself, would be problem solving with a voltmeter first. Starting with the driver door (Being the master controler of the other windows). Even if he replaced the motors, it is not going to help. If he has no power to them.

the cord in the rubber is fine and plus if we by passed the switches it would not matter we put power directly to the window motor on driver door and the back seat drivers side and nothing happened not even a little click, thats what i want to fix all the cords are good but what are the odds of 2 doors having blown out motors and im only 15 i cant afford 2-4 door window motors and i was told manual windows are a pain to install i just want my first jeep to be cool
http://images03.olx.com/ui/1/78/19/3786919_1.jpg <<<< thats all i want, that is my dream jeep, i grew up at a 4x4 shop and i helped build a 1964 jeep wrangler, 4x4ing is like the "free all you can eat cake for a fat kid"

Am I the only one who thinks maybe you put power to the wrong wires on the motor, or the wire you were using wasn't actually hot? It is very unlikely that all your motors are shot. Are you sure all the fuses are good, relays are good?
