1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport Fuel Pump
Hello,
Just recently aquired a '93 Cherokee Sport (4.0L I6 HO). I was told by the previous owner of a fuel pump issue (cuts out in the heat, will not start until it cools) and I am now trying to fix it. My fuel pump looks quite accessible, so I'm thinking I can do it myself without much trouble. But, however, when I went to my parts supplier they needed to know what kind of fuel pump I had already - they said it should be either a Bosch or a Walbro pump. This confused me. Why would it matter? What kind should I get? I'm not made of money but I value quality, so which is best? I don't quite understand why there would be two different pumps in the same model year. Does anyone know about this?
Thanks and God Bless,
Michael D. Leonardo

The OEM was either Walbro or Bosch, you could have either one. They were used interchangeably for a couple of years.
I don't think there are significant differences between them, but I'd bring the old along with just in case. I have not *personally* changed one from that year, so I'm hesitant to say either will work.

If you are looking for something to read, grab a copy of "Common Sense not Required" by Evan Boberg.
He was a Chrysler engineer responsible for quite a bit of Jeep development in the 80's and 90's. Interesting insight on how some of the compromises and developments regarding Jeep (and other Chrysler products) came about.
