Default 1994 Fuel Pump - How do I get this lock ring back on....

I'm having a hell of a time. Feels like I need 3 hands to force the pump in place. I'm having a tough time getting both tabs to line up with the notches on the gas tank. The top tab keeps moving the right and I have to apply a lot of force with a screw driver to get it to stay. The lock ring doesn't want to catch at the top when I do this?

Is there some magic I must do to make this happen. I'm searching for a good video, but, the last one I watched cut out right as it got to the good part...

Frustrating...

It's a PITA you have to stay patient. Don't fiddle with the pump too much or you can damage the sending unit and also pop the strainer off the assembly. The bottom of the pump lines up with a hole at the bottom of the tank so once it's seated properly you don't even have to touch the pump it will just stay in place. Put some vaseline on the gasket and on the edges of the lock ring. Use a screwdriver to push against the pump so you can tuck the edge of the ring into each notch on the tank. Once all edges are barely wedged on each notch you can start beating the ring by the tabs with a chisel. I had to hit it from different angles to turn fully and properly seal the pump. This isn't really a job that you watch a YouTube video and make things easier. I fiddled with the lock ring for about an hour before I got it on right be patient. I also bought a new ring at autozone for $2.99 with O ring. I ruined the stock one when I punched it out I mangled it. If you dropped the tank it's much easier. I didn't drop the tank and I did it on a rainy day with gas leaking onto my face and a d35 in the way.

That's pretty much what I did. Played with it and moved it around till it sat right. I guess the general rule "if you're fighting it, you're not doing it right" applies here. Got it in. Twice actually.

ProTip: tighten the supply hose inside the assembly prior to installing. Otherwise you will find yourself wondering the pressure is low and jeep keeps dying.

You have to kind of get lucky in a sense for it to line up and start turning to lock properly. If your struggling that bad I would just drop the tank and be done with it.

I got the new to me fuel pump in from a good running Cherokee. The old strainer wast toast and clogged with some yellowish gunk. It fell apart when I tried to clean it. Got a new one in it now.

The new fuel pump bounces between 30-32 psi rapidly. Very rapid. Any idea what might cause this? When I pull the vacuum line it holds a steady 39psi. The old pump didn't bounce. It held steady.

Also, can someone confirm that the check valve is in the fuel pump itself?
