Default 1994 Jeep Cherokee - Driver Seat

My driver side seat frame busted, Does the 1996 have the same frame as a 1994? Can't seem to find seats in my local JY. Thanks

Years ago my 91 had a slightly broken seat bottom cushion support frame. I just swapped out the seat (maybe just the bottom) with the passenger side. A zero cost solution that was fine as there was rarely anyone in the passenger seat.

Yes, that is a option, however the side seat has a lever that makes the seat go back.

Had mine break some years ago. I did the swap and yes the recline lever is on the "wrong" side. I never used it. Meanwhile, took the seat frame to a local welder. Had it back in a couple of days, swapped everything back.

Last year, the other side of the seat bottom bracket broke. Luckily, another '88 showed up in the JY. It had a good bracket so I took it. Too bad the cushions were trashed.

Pretty sure I only swapped the seat bottom so the recline lever wasn't an issue. It was pretty simple if my memory is accurate.

I assumed he's talking about the seat frame where the cushions attaches.

OK. My issue was the metal pan that supported the cushion had broke along the one edge, so there was little thigh support left.

No, the seat back frame busted right below the recline lever. I have called every JY and have had no luck. There is a frame back on Ebay for $100.00 and $97.00 shipping. Really $200.00 crazy. What sucks its busted close to the recline so if welded it would not recline.

They changed the seats in 95 to the newer design. So anything 94 and older should bolt right in.

remove the upholstery and take it to a welder, if you dont weld. get it repaired, ask to have some reinforcement or doubler added and you should be good to go, labor is like 15 to 30 minutes, you can cut the welders time by removing the paint an inch or so either side the break. I welded mine, the metal wings on the side bolsters broke, welded them back on and added a little sheet metal stiffener over the break, and am good to go, stronger than stock.

Good luck
