1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport not starting sometimes
I have a 1994 jeep Cherokee Sport that won’t start half the time. I will turn the key and part of the time the fuel pump won’t prime for like 30 minutes and sometimes it comes on almost immediately. Some times you turn the key and when it does eventually kick the fuel pump on it doesn’t actually prime(take the cap off the fuel rail and nothing comes out) and then part of the time it starts as soon as it primes.
I originally replaced the fuel pump because I thought it was going bad, didn’t help anything. I replaced the fuel pump relay. Nothing. I replaced the crank position sensor, still nothing.
It didn’t seem to have any problems till my battery went dead once and I replaced it with another battery. I don’t know if they are related or just pure coincidence. I highly doubt they are related. I have spark and when it finally starts it runs perfect and I don’t have any problems till I shut it off and try to start it hours later, sometimes immediately after shutting it off...and sometimes not.
I am kind of lost as to what it could be. I’ve been told to replace the CPS again (as the parts stores sometimes have multiple crappy ones). Others have thought it might be the fuel pressure regulator, maybe the new fuel pump, maybe the ignition or ignition switch. I’m really not sure and would prefer not to just throw parts at it.
The Jeep has something like 215k miles. I’m not having any other problems with how it runs besides the starting. Like I said once it finally starts it has never left me stranded or ran badly so I’m really not sure what is wrong with it.
its almost as if something isn’t telling the fuel pump to kick on.
Any help or advice would be great!

i am not 100% sure but seems from what you described it might be in the ignition switch they tend to burn out and act up, tho when i had an ignition switch issure all my accessories didnt work but the fuel pump worked fine. but turning the key in the On position and back and forth 3 times the pump should prime and build up pressure if that doesnt happen maybe your culprit is right there.
something to look at and check for bad connections instead of buy one right away ?
