Exclamation 1994 jeep XJ Wont start

Ok, i am sure that someone has had this issue and can help me so i will start from the beginning. I used to drive my xj everyday but when i got a good stable job i went and bought a 2006 GMC 2500HD lifted on 38s. I drove the truck back and forth to work for about 3 months. well low and behold for some odd resin the entire front end of my truck came apart. Here is were my problem started. i used to start my xj and lit it idle every weekend and when i parked it it ran fine. i never drove it. i would just lit it sit and idle. well seeing how my truck decided to fall on its face i need something to drive. i went to my Cherokee. it will turn the motor over but not catch. my first thought was the fuel pump. so i poped off the fuel lines to see if it was spaying gas they are. So next i figure it must me spark. i pulled the spark plug and tryed to turn it over so i can see if i have spark. NO SPARK AT ALL. This is when i figured i had it. CPS it has to be so i pull it out got a new one and put it in. same thing it will crank but no spark. i figure maybe i got a dummy part. i went and got another same results. i checked the rotor button and cap not them ether. also pulled the coil and put a new one on still nothing. Also pulled all the fuses and everything checks out. I really need help guys i got 2 broken vehicles and i need to get to work. any and all help is greatly thanked

Ok, no spark:

Let's check with the basics. How's the starting and charging system. Could easily be a starter since it wont "catch"

The starter is turning the motor over. i know the last few times i drove it, it would take longer and longer to catch and start to run. could it be slack in the chain? but i dont think that would cause it not to spark? or am i wrong?

Could your ignition coil gone out? I had a similar issue and replaced a lot of ****, didn't think to check the coil since it was less than two years old but it turns out it was bad.

Also the TPS on the throttle body if shorted out would make it crank but not start, another issue I've had.

Dose the Coil ground to the block via the bolts its held on with? i plugged a new one in but didnt bolt it on. also how would i check to see if the tps is shorted out?

I believe you only have to bolt it in and plug it up. Don't recall any other ground situation. There is a way to test the TPS. I've done it once before but seeing how it is like a $25-30 part I just replaced it the few times I've had issues with it.

What i ment is, Is the Coil Grounded by the 2 bolts that hold it onto the block? if the TPS is bad will it not start? it used to start up but when i gave it some gas it would stall out and die.

It should just be the 2 bolts for the coil yes. When my TPS was going out before it would do the same, with crank and no start or start but want to die or completely die when giving it throttle.

And ur sure the fuel pump is working? Not saying you don't know or anything lol but you hear it make a hum/buzz noise from the fuel tank when you turn the ignition on correct? If so, when was the last time ur fuel filter was replaced? If that is fairly new, you said the cap and rotor or good on the distributor? If those are good and the ignition coil was replaced and you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail (you can press the little valve on the fuel rail to see if there is pressure there, FYI use a towel because fuel will spray hard and fast if there if pressure) I would have to say maybe the distributor itself is shot. You can try and see if the OBD gives a code that you can go off of.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/showth...341&styleid=15

Read it and follow the instructions for the OBD1 ****.

Tell me what codes it throws and we can go from there. But if all ur **** above is good the distributor is only thing that pops into my head besides bad fuel or clogged line(if no fuel pressure).

How about instead of throwing parts at it, we figure out what's wrong.
First- year and motor.
Second- I'm assumoning it's automatic.
Third- how did you verify no spark?

Ok, when testing for spark you need a helper to turn the key while you hold the plug on the coil wire and ground the anode to the block/head, and if it isn't a solid blue spark, work your way back with a multimeter, make sure you see 12v at the coil, in the icm, out of the starter relay, etc. Eventually you'll find the issue

The plugs are giving nothing. so i moved back the coil is giving nothing... the plug that plugs into the coil is not giving anything off when turning the key. what does this mean?
