1995 XJ Crankshaft Position Sensor
Last year I had the crankshaft position sensor go bad on a 1995 XJ. It would crank but not turn over and start. Replaced part and fixed the problem.
Had the same problem again. Engine would crank, but not start. Let it sit for a few hours and before I hooked the tow strap up I decided to try it one more time. It started right up. I have heard that this is a part that fails fairly commonly.
1. What is the mopar part # for the correct CPS for a 95 XJ 4.0? I am planning on getting a spare.
2. What could cause a similar crank but not start?

My ignition coil went bad and had similar symptoms. Stalled out on a busy two lane bridge near Pittsburgh one time, that was fun.
I did did the same thing you did. Bought an autozone cps, stalled again later, bought a mopar, stalled again, replaced ignition coil...no problem since. Make sure cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires are good.
if you don't want to spend the time to replace the ignition coil right it can be zip tied to the old one. Changing it the right way is quite fun.
