1995 XJ - Failed smog from visual inspection/high NOX
Hi all! First post here, of many hopefully. Been driving my newly acquired 1995 XJ and loving it. I took it in to get smogged in CA, and failed! Apparently some hoses are disconnected. I should note that it's on 33" tires with stock gearing.
Apparently I have the air box from 1997-2001 because the evap hose that goes from the canister to the airbox has no nipple to attach to, so I have to drill a hole to accommodate. Not a big deal. I could also potentially replace the entire air box in the future.
The other hose comes from a hard line against the firewall, it appears to be some kind of fuel vapor line. I was told by the smog tech that it plugs into the evap canister. The metal line fits a 1/4" fuel hose, but that diameter hose is much too small for the nipple on the canister! I don't know of any hoses that have two different diameters. How should I connect these two disconnects?
I should also mention that my NOX failed by 15 ppm, probably because they had the damn thing idling inside for a long time and it got pretty hot.
