Hello, I have a 1996 jeep xj that has been having a problem with the aux fan for about 2 weeks, it previously worked fine then the fan gave out which resulted in me replacing the fan and relay and the temp sensor at the thermostat housing. I have not been able to get it to turn on with operating temperatures so the jeep ends up overheating. The fan only turns on when the A/C is on, I am a bit confused with what might be happening. Does anybody have any idea what could be happening with my jeeps aux fan? Thank you very much.

96 is a transition year..some have the temp coming off a small sensor near the back of the head drivers side...others are only driven by the sensor in the tstat housing through the computer. Get the jeep up to normal warm temps at leat 160 or 170....disconnect the sensor in the tstat. The fan should turn on within a second or so...also if your gauge now reads cold...then that sensor also drives the temp gauge..but either way,the sender in the tstat drives fan off or on. You will set a check engine light. If none of this happens then you might have bad wiring to the sensor or computer
