1996 xj misfire in cyl 1,2,&3
well i finally got my jeep about 10 days ago, and i was having some troubles with it, it was jerking at low rpms. i took it to a mechanic to get it inspected and he put it on his computer and i found out along with o2 that i just replaced being bad, i had a misfire in cyl 1,2,&3..any ideas? he said he thinks its the rings because its burning oil pretty bad and that the motor is gonna need rebuilt..the jeep itself has 198k on it but it has a remanufactured motor with around 50k on it..im going to do a compression test and check the injectors today, any other advice or suggestions? the plugs wires cap rotor and ingnition coil were all replaced right before i bought it

I think you are on the right track. Do the compression test. Thats always a good starting point. Pay attention to which plugs come from where to see if they are covered in fuel or oil. Double check the fireing order, and inside the cap and rotor. Depending on who rebuilt the motor, they may have only done the top or bottom end. So oil on the plugs does not automaticly mean rings. It could be valve seals.

well i tried to do the compression test, but my tester doesnt fit, im gonna have to get a new end for it, im pretty sure mine are all metric because i bought it for my street bike, so i didnt get to do that yet, the vacuum is around 16 though..i pulled the plugs and 5 wernt too bad, just the insulator tip was chalk white, but cyle # 2 looked like this
i seafoamed the motor, changed the oil and even dumped some atf down the throttle body, now i have no sputters or any problems i was having before. im going to put some new spark plugs in tonight and see what happens

Seafoam.... Take the vaccum line loose from the booster, then slowly pour seafoam into vacuum line just dont let it die its a pain in the A$$ to restart after the whole can is in turn it off let sit for about 5 mins. restart dont freak out when it starts smoking. then run a nother can through the gas tank.
