1997 jeep cherokee wiring problem after moter swap

Hello I have a 1997 xj. I took the blown up 97 4.0l out and replaced it with a 89 4.0l, just the block and head. I put all the 97 parts on the 89 moter, I when to tried to crank it over today it had nothing but a big spark from the battery. I know my starter wiring is correct. But I'm unsure about all the grounds for the coil and other stuff. My coil is not mounted on the block because the 89 block dose not have the mounting points on it. Is it ok to have the coil ground wires and some other ground wires connected it the frame next to the motor mount bracket? I have the main ground wire connected to the block. And the body ground from the back of the head connected and the one ground off the main harness connected to the block. Do I need all my grounds connected to the block? Thank you for taking your time to look at my problem and any advice is much appreciated.
