1998 Cherokee p0705 and p0753
Hey everyone,
having some issues with my transmission on my 1998 Cherokee 4x4 4.0L. I am getting the P0705 and P0753 codes. when i put it in drive it feels like it is trying to start in 3rd gear unless i switch it into 1-2. the issue can on very suddenly. the transmission fluid is full and seems clean from the dip stick but i have not opened it up to check. it sounds like it could be a shift solenoid but i was wondering what i could try before i do that as it looks like i would have to drop the transmission oil pan. Is there a fuse i could check? or connectors i should check? I am not very knowledgeable about how all the electronics work on the car. Any help would appreciated. I am going to clean the NSS as well as that what one of the codes is calling for. I can start it in both P and N and it starts right up. It will not start in R D 3 or 1-2 which seems to be a good thing.
thanks in advance

Check the wiring from the firewall down to the transmission. There are two connectors you can open up and clean - one for the solenoids (the P0753 code) and the other goes to the neutral safety switch (the P0705 code). You can also measure the solenoid resistance with a meter and see if it's within spec (11-15 ohms if my memory is correct). The NSS switch is a common issue and not terribly hard to clean and refurbish assuming you can get it off intact. Youtube should have a bunch of how-to videos on it.

as the previous answer said, disconnect the connector that goes to the trans solenoids, and after downloading the FSM from this site to guide you, check the resistance between those pins and earth to see if each solenoid is within spec. It can also be worth unplugging and re-inserting the Trans computer plug
