1998 Sport - Before tearing apart the cargo area...
We gave a quick look in my sons 1998 Cherokee Sport and did not find an auxiliary plug in the cargo area. Did we just miss it or was it an option he does not have? Before running a separate line, is there a switchable power source in the cargo area of a 1998 Cherokee Sport? For that matter is there a constant /fused hot ? What side and where should I be looking? I don't mind pulling panels, but having an idea where to start would be handy.
All we need is 15 amp max to run a 12 to 24 DC volt step up and trigger a relay.
if anyone is curious why, we want to feed a Victon MPPT solar controller 24 volts (feed voltage must be at least 5 volts over battery voltage to trigger the solar controller - thus 24 volts) while the jeep is running and have the solar panels take over charging his spare LiFeP04 battery when it is not. Static tests outside the vehicle have proven the system works. Now we want to implement it.

I believe the rear dome light might be your best bet. I can't remember if it's controlled through the headlight switch or if it's a turn it on/off from the cargo area.
Personally, if I was doing something like that, I'd spend the hours time and run a dedicated power wire to the back of the Jeep.

I think there is a hot line supplying the trailer tow harness connector that should already be there with or without the module. It's in the panel behind the spare tire, but I think it's hot all the time. I think you'll have to run your own power back there.
