1999 Cherokee auto transmission issues
Want to to start off and say I am new the Jeep scene and recently picked up a 99 xj. Started off having issue with converter bolts being loose and then bell housing bolts. Then torque converter decided to crap out. Removed Trans to replace convertor. At this time my brother decided to take this piece off Trans(see pic)
Not sure what that is for or what it does. We got it back into trans. Installed new convertor and recently installed Trans. Added fluid, backed jeep out of garage. Test drove and everything seemed fine. Went to drive it next day and now has no reverse or over drive. Can only explain to me what the part is the arrow is pointing to and if this could have something to do with my issue or is it something different all together. Thanks in advance

Based on what I see, I'd say that's not a '99 AW4. That's not your trans is it. LOL
Here's a pic of a '95 AW4:
I don't know what that access plate is. It's not mentioned in the FSM or in the parts catalog.
As far as no reverse or over drive goes, maybe you should check your fluid level again.
Drive the Jeep for about 15 miles to bring the trans oil up to operating temp. Park on level ground. Set the parking brake. Place the trans in Park. With the engine idling, the fluid level on the dipstick should be above the hole and no higher than the MAX line.
