1999 Cherokee Sport
Hi all, I'm a new owner of a 1999 Cherokee Sport 4x4 and have a few questions. I have replaced the valve cover gasket, cleaned throttle body and did a tune up. The engine runs smooth as silk and revs quick now and that is with 203k miles on the clock. The old girl is stock and has some other mechanical issues that needs to be addressed. I need to rebuild the front suspension but not sure if what I do will be a waste of money when I install a lift. The exhaust is factory and needs to be replaced, what sounds good? I also need to replace all the shocks but that can wait until I do the lift. Trans shifts smooth but I need to replace the u joints as well as an axle bearing. My plans are a lift for trails and highway driving and allow at least 33's but would prefer 35's without trimming, doable? Is there anything else I need to look out for or need to fix before it becomes a problem? I will post some pics tomorrow.
Thanks
Scott

Hi Scott and welcome!
Lets start with what you want to run for a tire size and go back from their as that makes a lot of difference in the build and what you need to do. Either of these 2 sizes require trimming to a degree or a lot of lift and even then still some trim is needed with a 35" tire. I have ran 33's with a 3" lift with a lot of trimming and bumpstops required and now at 4 1/2" of lift and run both 33's and 35's. IMO without trimming you would lose most of the advantage of the larger tire. With those size's of tires you will need a gear change to use them and that is the time to install lockers also, no extra cost involved then.
The tires will also determine what is needed for steering as for strength. the same goes for many of the items that will be replaced with the lift and quality of track bar required and lift kit you buy.
It would be best that you read for a while longer to see all the things required to do what you want the costs increase quite a bit with more lift and tire.
