1999 Cherokee XJ -Head Light Delay
1999 Cherokee -Since I've bought my latest XJ this past spring (4th to date), I've been knocking items off my 'wish list'. The next item I'd like to tackle is adding a Delayed Shutoff for my head lights. I've been lucky so far with a few other electrical related items as the wiring harness connection points for 'Cruise Control' and under dash 'Courtesy Lights' were there (tough to locate, but there). I do not believe my vehicle had a head light delay feature as it had a standard dome light (since replaced), and was built as a Police Vehicle.
How difficult would it be to add the delay? Hopefully, it would be as simple as just adding a module, and a fuse or two???
As always, any advice is appreciated.

Funny, really though .... Headlamp delay works that way....
Shut off lights before the engine - lights go out.
Shut off lights after engine is off - lights stay on for however many seconds.
All Canadian vehicles past IIRC mid 90's have it, much like DRL's ... Can't remember if it's a module (like DRL's) or a part of the PCM programming though.

Just checked it again without any luck. Not sure what to do next. I continue to research it. Let me know if anyone has any ideas what i should be looking for.

I don't know how many times I've accidentally triggered the delay in a parking lot and had someone tell me, "Hey, you left your lights on!"

The headlamp delay modle looks like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Cherokee-XJ-Mopar-Headlamp-Delay-Switch-56009324/231286879993?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D23490%26meid%3D8817974534198385528%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D10073%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D231247180907#ht_139wt_900
And, that is the part number.
It's located near the headlamp switch. You'll have to remove the trim panel and knee blocker from under the steering column to get at it.

Yup... For about the first month of having my 99, I always had to go back and check, or wait for them to shut off. And yeah I always get the "Hey, you left your lights on" I think it'd be cooler if they shut off when you locked it with the remote
