1999 Cruise control troubleshooting
First, thanks to all that have helped me so far in other threads (@Sig220 , @Ralph77 @fb97xj1 ) and all.
I have a 1999 XJ Sport - 4.0, 4X4. It did not come with stock cruise so I decided to add. So far I have:
New Crown Automotive clock spring
Left/Right switches (bought on eBay) - Correct numbers for the '99
Servo pulled from a pick-n-pull
New vacuum reservoir
I have everything installed and start up the XJ. The Cruise light flashes on when button is pressed, then goes off. Then press button again and light stays on for about 1 second, goes off then won't come back on at all. Test drove and no cruise control.
I checked all vacuum lines and can't find anything that might be a leaking spot, etc.
I'm wondering if the stop light switch needs to be changed? Did the cruise XJs come with a different one?
Any other things I need to check out?
Thanks in advance!

You are a fast thinker, I may have missed it in the other thread, but did not realize you were installing cruise instead of fixing cruise.
That being known/said, I was going to mention the brake light switch. In full disclosure, I have not installed a cruise on a non cruiser but I know I can cancel cruise with the cancel button or tapping on the brakes. So there has to be some connection between the brake switch and the wiring for the cruise.
Hopefully somebody will chime in on the connection!

The brake light switch in a non cruise control XJ is the same as in a cruise control one.
But still doesn't mean it is not bad.
Guessing I am just leaning toward the switch(s).
As I have pointed out many times Ebay some sellers are not the brightest bunch.
You say they are '99 and up ones but are they?
Or maybe they are just bad.

I checked the numbers and they are the right switches. Doesn't mean they aren't bad.
Today I pulled into the garage, still had the XJ in gear (with foot on brake) and pressed the On button just for the hell of it. Cruise light came on and stayed on. I put it in reverse to pull out and see if it was somehow now working. When I took my foot of the brake to back out, the light went out. I pressed the brake again and pushed the button and it came back on for a few seconds and wouldn't come back on.
I'm thinking brake light switch. Unless it's somehow related to it being in gear.

Well, I replaced the stop light switch and I'm basically getting the same issue.
When I have the brake pedal pushed the cruise light comes on, when I release the brake it goes off.
Any thoughts on what to check next?

Ok, for anyone following this or troubleshooting in the future:
The first post details what I've done so far to add cruise to a 1999 XJ that did not come from the factory with cruise.
After having the last issue I had I checked the connection under the hood that goes to the servo. I cleaned it real good, both the connector on the wire and the connector on the servo and then made sure the wire was as snug on the servo as I could get it.
And..
It now works.
