Question 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ, almost finished 4x4 conversion, now it won't start.

I recently began a 4x4 conversion on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. The Jeep ran perfectly when I parked it, now it wont start.
The Jeep will crank and crank, and it has spark, fuel and proper compression, but I can't get it to actually start.
Now, I have the o2 sensor closest to the headers removed as that I am waiting for a downpipe to arrive, but I doubt this would cause it to entire not start up.
There are no signs of a misfire or lack of spark.
I am thinking it could be the CPS, but I do not know. Any ideas?
I also noticed that the speed sensor in the transfer case was hard to plug in, the harness barely would reach it, but with a little effort it did. Just mentioning this for the sake of clarity in case it is to blame.
Thanks

Also, prior to this conversion, last year, I did a complete engine service, new plugs, wire, dist, gaskets, seals, timing, rings, etc. It has ran perfectly for the last year and a half, so the engine should be fine.
I did notice that I am getting a "No bus" error now.

Been sitting for a year? Water in the system? Good battery charge?

Test crank and cam sensors with a multimeter. You should see 5 volt pulses from the signal wire.

No, I have been driving it for that year. It has only been sitting the last 2 weeks while I have been carrying out the conversion project. The battery is good. It is under my enclosed garage, so water shouldn't be an issue

Everything seems to point towards CPS

If the CPS tests OK then it's double-checking all the wires, including TCM, NSS, the VSS wire that's all stretchy and all the grounds.

Be sure to post back when you find the solution.

Will do! I am about to drive 20 miles down the road and get a new one. When I am finished with the conversion as a whole I want to do a write up and parts list. Since it is a late model xj, I think it may help others to share the insights I have learned in this process.

Just finished changing out my CPS. Need any tips? Like having a cold 6 pack and a bottle of Jack handy?

haha Yeah, I used about a yard of extensions and a half swivel head to remove it. I would have replaced it when I still had the AW4 on the trans jack if I would have known.

I drop the front driveshaft and use a large selection of Russian swear words.
