Default 1999 XJ 4x4 stalls in reverse as soon as throttle is applied.

So my 1999 Cherokee XJ started giving me issues in reverse. It drives fine, no problems in any gear but reverse. It will coast perfectly fine but as soon as you hit the accelerator peddle it immediately bogs and stalls until it shortly dies. At first it threw a code for the TPS, replaced that. Now it is throwing no codes and the IAC has been replaced by a Mopar replacement. NSS is working fine, reverse lights still come on and it has no problems in any other gear. I am beginning to run out of ideas. I have heard perhaps a bound up torque converter may cause such an issue. I also heard that if there is a gap between the engine and transmission that this can cause it. I am leaning towards something electrical as that it doesn't feel like the transmission is binding or anything.

There is no signs of vacuum leakage. The CPS is new and isn't throwing a code. It really seems as if fuel is being cut.

I have cleaned and greased all the grounds in the engine bay also.

Engine and trans mounts in good shape? Have a good look at the wiring harness between the engine and the firewall. Sometimes it rubs through the insulation and shorts out as the engine moves around. The wires can also break inside and become intermittent. Make sure no wiring is near or touching the exhaust header as well.

Just thinking mind you, but the engine tries to lift the driver's side going forward, but in reverse, it torques the other way. Is there any wiring that is short or being pulled tight when the engine lifts the passenger's side? Is that engine mount broken? The harness for the injectors runs behind the head at the firewall and could be damaged when doing a head change. Is it soaked with oil? Just a few things to look at.

I would lean towards a stretched or chafed wire or connector...with some exceptions to exclude torque convertor...perform the "stall test" and "time test" outlined in the FSM, to see if it passes them

in addition, what happens if you feather the throttle on level ground ( in a way that shouldnt..or at least minimise engine or harness movement)...is it ever possible to reverse under those conditions

will it roll backwards with reverse engaged ? ...to eliminate the possibility of some weird binding
