The only diff between 2,300 miles around town and long distance is,you do not want to breakdown far from home,in your case every mile you travel you are getting closer,I would not worry to much, just stop along the way and enjoy it.

i dated mine for 3 yers, came in, did my 4 years and now we got a place together, you can make it work, plus if you do go down the road of marraige... (dont be persuaded by the options, make sure its a REAL marraige) the military makes it very very easy to afford and live together

I was in the navy, there is two things you cannot do,take your wife to sea with you and deer hunt off the fantail,i got out. I think the Airforce is a little easier on the marriage, and in some cases they let you hunt on the bases. But I had alot of fun in the navy as well.

Man you will be fine. I made it from the middle of North Carolina to Twenty-Nine Palms Marine Corps air station in California in 2 days. Granted I didnt stop for anything but fuel and was going a little fast. That was in my 96 Cherokee which at the time had about 130,000. She ran the whole time only stopping to fill up on fuel. I made it in 28 hours. Just snacked on soft drinks and crackers. I didnt care to stop and see anything I did that on the way back from CA to Home.

this probably should have been a pm, sorry all, but just had to throw some thoughts out there.
like i said earlier about other peoples advice, you can deffinetly take mine with a grain of salt if you like. if you have any questions about the af, i can give you my opinion on my past experiences and my job, not the af from any other career field stand point. it all depends on your career field and what YOU make of it.

kind of off the subject but Not sure why anyone wouldnt recommend the air force, i have been in for 9 years now and have loved every second. first of all, there are hundreds of jobs in the AF so unless you are going into the same job as the person advising you, i would take it with a grain of salt. make sure you get the job you want, if you are mechanical, go flightline, harder work and longer hours but you will have a feeling of better job satisfaction. it has always been my pet peave when someone tell me i wont like something. where ever you are is what you make of it. remember that. as far as the gf, if it was mtb she will be their at the parade field when your done with basic. think of your future and the present economy. you can't get anymore security and benifits than the military. as far as the navy or other branches. try to find someone who has been in both to give you advice on one vs the other. look up the stastitics on af to army, army to af, af to navy, navy to af, etc. i guarantee you the majority went from another branch to the af.

I wish I'd joined the army when I was 17, rather then 21. I freakin love it. If you have any Q's you don't feel comfortable asking your dad.

Did you work on the C-5s there? I lived in the bay area for 20 years and use to go hunting and fishing around travis, loved watching those C-5s take off and land there, those monsters never looked like they went flying very fast because of there size.
I remember when the B-52s used fly out of there and they used to do rapid response take offs, and one time one of those B-52s crashed with full ammo, they had to wait until all the ammo stopped going off after the crash before they could approch the jet to rescue anyone, not a good time.
We citizen's of America are proud of you guys who sacrifice for this country and our freedom, you deserve our support.
On you way home stop at the grand canyon if you can, if you have never seen that it will be worth the going out of your way to see, it is awesome.
