Default 2000-2001 Cats and exhaust questions

Am I correct to assume that in 2000 the 4.0 had a single cat system (same as 1999) except California vehicles?
When was the switch over to the 3 cat system for all XJs? (2 front cats, 1 rear)

For the 2000-2001 with the front cats: From what I was able to determine they received the rear cat, the "resonator" is for "unleaded" vehicles?

Every description of the resonator says "Leaded fuel"

The 2000 was available in both Federal Emissions and CA Emissions.
To the best of my knowledge all '01's are CA Emissions.
A Federal Emissions '00 is not like a '99.
Instead of the dual cats it has a Y-Pipe.

The rear cat/resonator is where I think it also get confusing.
But I think whether you have Federal or CA XJ that you are still running #9 in your first shot.
And in Walker part numbers that would be 16117. I know for a fact there is a bung hole on that Walker cat.
I used that Walker part in my CA Emissions '00. And the bung did have a bolt in it.
Would be for the O2 sensor that would be behind it in a Federal Emissions '00.

Now there is a whole other animal that I have never seen up close and personal.
That is an '00 with a build date of before 1/20/00.
Pretty sure they don't have flanges, all the parts are slip on, but never really could get a handle on exactly how they are set up.

Does of that help? LOL.

As clear as the Brazos river in Mumford TX,,,

Seriously,, what you posted helps fill in the pieces,, and I am one step farther to my "XJ Knowledge merit badge"
I am finding this is a continuous learning process,, kinda like women or marriage

Do you think the 2000 non cali, y pipe with 2 separate cast ex manifolds has less cracking than the earlier 1 piece manifolds ?
I would love to find a 2000 5 speed NON Cali exhaust.

I always kind of figured that Jeep might have went to the 2 piece cause of them cracking but....
I have never seen a thread where a guy said that his 2 piece manifold was cracked.
But they can only be used with the 0331 or TUPY 0331 head unless you get the adapter plate.
