Default 2000 cherokee, anyone have specs on play in the cam position sensor assembly?

Hi Folks

I have a thread in here on this jeep but it has a ton of information and is hard to get through and stay focused, so i figured i would try it this way,
2000 cherokee 4.0 the cam position sensor shaft assembly has about 1/16 to 1/18 side to side play, looking strait down on it it appears to move that much side to side, the sensor is new, im getting a cam sync problem, it has no codes but on a top end scanner we can see lost sync sync lost sync sync lost sync non stop and obviously thats creating all kinds of driveability issues,

cam sensor is new, shaft has some side to side play but only in one direction, no visible damage i can see it spun ok when i had it out, anyone know what kind of end play is ok? im thinking this may be the issue,

anyone?

Are you talking the external outside shaft where it sits in the "distributor" hole or are you talking the inner shaft that does the rotating. The flat screwdriver end slips into a slot in the oil pump, and the gear rides on its mating gear on the cam. That inner shaft should have almost no wobble

Yes im talking about the inner shaft that spins inside the sync assembly, it has some side to side play, its not huge but the new one has none, im trying to pin down a problem, i put it on a high end scanner and the only thing out of wack is the cam sync keeps showing lost sync then in sync then lost sync then in sync, its throwing the timing and injectors way out of wack and wont run worth a crap. i put a new one in and it has not resolved the problem, i have a 5volt reference on the sensor plug, im down to wiring or bad PCM, its getting its 5 volts but not sending back a signal, i want to check all the wiring but i do not have a diagram to pull the plugs on the ECM and do a ohms test on all 3 wires, if i find a fault i can either bypass or repair, oh and never once have ai got a code for cam sensor, in fact i have no codes despite it popping through the intake and skipping so bad the whole jeep shakes, it should at least send a lean code, checking plugs it looks like almost no fuel on front 3 cylinders and a little black soot on the back 3 cylinders, its not firing injectors and its t=not timing the engine, which is also what the cam sensor does lol

I am stumped unless its wiring or ECM, on a back probe from cam sensor how can i test for wire shorts in this circuit? any ideas? if i had a wiring diagram i could pull the plugs on the ECM and go from sensor to ECM that should tell me if i have a short in the harness, on the 3 wires from the cam sensor i know 1 is a 5 volt reference, i found that, what should i see on the other two wires? i think im seeing 5 volts on both outside wires in the plug, also back probing for wire short, any ideas?

UPDATE, I ohms tested the sensor signal wire to the ecm plug and it looks ok, i thought about excessive timing chain play as it has 140k, i did turn the crank with the cam sensor off and the center shaft moves with little variance between crank rotation and sensor moving, any ideas? i dont know were the rest of the wires go, a bad ECM is possible,
