2000 Cherokee cylinder 6 misfire HELP
#31
Bringing this one back to the top. Did you end up getting your jeep going again? I have parked mine this winter and been driving another vehicle as I havent had ANY time to look at it. Interested to see if the injectors worked.

I have a 200 XJ, same cyl 6 misfire. I've replaced the injectors, plugs AND coil rail. Still there. Did seafoam to get the gunk out, it's a bit better, but still very apparent. Doing the head and gasket next.
Someone told me it might be a cam or crank sensor issue??? I don't buy it. OBD II didn't read a code for it. When I took the valve cover off, smoke came pouriiing out. Awesome.
Will let anyone know if head replacement helped.

You can hear the ticking through the speakers?
Tell me how that would be at all related to fuel injectors..
If the sound is literally coming through the speakers, then you have a bad connection somewhere.
My guess is you have a frayed wire going to the #6 coil, and after you did your plug swap, it just got worse from moving it around.
Check that before you waste money on injectors or a fuel rail.

I've had the same issue with my 01 xj. cylinder 1 & 6. put new copper plugs in, same prob. due to PO overheating i had to install a new head and did the injectors at the same time. (dont go with Precisioninjectors. one of there's leaked and after several attempts they never contacted me back to resolve the issue.) same miss-fire codes. frustrating. does anyone know a way to test the coil bar? i also noticed a strange electric buzz sound from under the dash when the throttle pedal is at a certain position.

Are you guys having hard start issues? If so best solution for starting mine up successfully is to turn key to on position then off twice then fully turn over on 3rd and it starts every time. Hope this helps

mine starts fine. the misfire happens mostly after driving for a while and then when i put the brakes on the engine misfires and runs a little rough. if i turn it off and restart it runs ok. always has a little bit of a rough idle though. the electric buzzing isnt from the speakers. its something under the dash which is weird as hell. maybe the computer is going bad? if i ever figure it out ill let you guys know.

JamDeeper, good point about the cam. position sensor. i was thinking that or knock sensor but thought the OBD II would pick it up.
anyone with the misfire also have the oil pressure drop, after warm up and at idle? when diagnosing my cylinder head issue i read that 99-01 heads crack easily and then you get coolant in the oil which degrades barrings and then the oil pressure is affected. is there a possibility that the oil pressure dropping would cause a misfire? just a thought. i really want to get a lift kit for the jeep and start off-roading but put all the lift $$ into trying to fix this gremlin that haunts the jeep. and it still F's up
