Default 2000 Engine Swap

this has probably already been covered somewhere else but here goes...
I have a 2000 Cherokee Sport 4x4 with a 4.0. the engine needs to be replaced. (previous owner blew a freeze plug, ran it hot and let it cook the oil) I have been told that the only engines that will work in this year is a 2000 or 2001 "coil pack" motor specifically for a Cherokee. I haven't been able to find one used locally. The rest of the Jeep is in fairly good shape: vehicle has 116000 miles on it,needs a front bumper and has a couple of small dings but no rust. The vehicle was given to me so I have no investment in it (yet!). So, what are your suggestions?

Forgot to mention that I'm going to have to pay someone else to install the engine. Probably run somewhere between $900-$1100 additional parts and labor in addition to the cost of the engine.

Looks like you could buy a rebuilt motor shipped for about $1600.

If all else is good, and the vehicle was given to you free of cost then $1600 is not a bad price to pay for a 2000 XJ.

Heck you could probably put the motor in, then sell the running jeep at a profit.

If it were me, holding a free 2000 XJ, I'd scrape the money together and get a rebuilt motor.

These guys want $1316 ... low milage used motor ..... FREE Shipping

U dont have to use a 2000-2001 motor u can use the older motors u just have to use everything off ur motor....i.e intake, exhaust, cam sensor, coilpack....checkout wildspear thread cause he just did this swap on his 2000 with an older motor.....here is the link to the thread....https://www.cherokeeforum.com/groups...e-odessey.html

Get a 96+ 0630 head yard engine.... save some cash. 95 and older are supposedly a weaker casting, but I really don't think it matters much. I would be more concerned with the mileage on the replacement engine.
