what the heck is a 2000 hour timer module? there is a box on the inside of my firewall that the wires run through the firewall and into the loom on the other side. 4 wires, orange, red, black, and black w/ white stripe....

so i go on autozone's website and look for something with this color wires in the engine scematics and all i find is a "2000 hour timer module"

what is this? do i need this? trying to simplify my wiring

My best guess is it is probably something to set of a check engine light or switch a code on the ecu after 2000 hours of run time.

Dealership scam to make some money when the jeep was new perhaps???

Is is unplugable? try it and see wha happens.

relevant? Perhaps. I had a '88 Ranger with the cheap body, motor, etc. It had one of these to remind the owner to clean the EGR valve. If I remember right, you had to press a small plunger in a hole to reset it. That was the "check engine light" for the cheapo body. If the original owners manual was missing, it would drive you crazy. Hope this helps

If its anything like the renix 4.0s, that module will turn the "Emiss Maint." light after ~86,000mi (or something like that) It is to remind you to check your emissions equipment (EGR, Oxygen Sensor, ETC) since there is no CEL on the Renix's. In the Renix models, it is a clear box with a bunch of "gears" in it. Most people just pull the module when the light comes on.
