Default 2000 Jeep Cherokee liftgate handle really pissing me off

2000 Jeep Cherokee liftgate handle really pissing me off. I have installed five liftgate handles and they keep breaking. What am I doing wrong? The last two I had drilled a hole down the shaft that engages the unlock and put a steel rod and glued it in. But that didn’t even work, it just bent the rod. I have greased The part completely just don’t know what to do. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Turned out that all the lift gate handles broke because of the metal slide plate attached to the lock. I took off this plate and it’s been working fine since.

ive read the amazon reviews of different lift gate handles, lots of complaints of them breaking within a month, 3mos, 6mos, etc...

im wondering if you figured out the problem or just got lucky?
