Default 2000 Jeep XJ engine light flashing

long story short, while my girlfriend was driving. The check engine light started flashing and felt rough, like having a hard time going. When getting to a redlight, it shut off on her and hard time braking, I’m assuming the braking issue is due to it shutting off. She was able to turn it on again.

Now the ignition coil pack was replaced about a month or so ago and spark plugs replaced almost a year ago, about 10,000 miles into the Jeep maybe less.

I️ havnt scanned it but will do as soon as off of work today.

Any idea on what it could be?

Sounds like it's misfiring badly. See what codes it's throwing and post them up. Did one of the coil pack wires come loose?

Well that’s why i replaced the coil pack cuz it was showing misfiring. I replaced coil pack and reset. It ran perfect. The light came on now and flashing.

Yes it is. And he is right about the evaporative system code. First place to start would be the gas cap. It may not be tight or have bad seals. The torque converter code could be secondary?

Google the exact code + Jeep XJ (or Jeep Cherokee) to find specific forum threads of others that have had these codes. Good luck!

Neither of those codes will cause the engine light to flash. Let's hope you got the misfire issue fixed with the plugs and coil rail. If the flashing CEL comes back, scan again.

Also, get your own scanner or buy an OBDII bluetooth adapter and the Torque app. You're going to need a reliable way to pull and clear codes.
