2000 Jepp cherokee 4x4 shuts off while car is running.
For about a month on and off my 2000 jeep Cherokee has been refusing to start and intermittingly shutting off while already in motion or idling.
*First sign: wouldn't start one morning.
*Then after an 8 hour rest. It again would not start. I pushed the gas and turned the key and it STARTED right up.
**Filled car up with 93 octane, ran perfect for a few days (figured just bad fuel or air in tank) BUT then it shut off again while I was stopped at a stop light.
****I turned the key all the way off and turned it back on...it started right away. After a few days while driving 50 mph, the jeep again shut off and I had to coast across 4 lanes and into a parking lot. I turned the key off and waited a few moments. (I noticed the odometer and the oil needles both moving erratically right before it shuts down) I turned the key and it started right up. I drove it back home and switched vehicles. My husband drove the jeep and within 45 minutes while he was sitting in traffic it again shut off. The jeep has been continuing this cycle for 3 days. This is reoccurring issue and we need a solution!

It sort of sounds like the ECU might be going out. Out of curiosity how old is the battery? I'd had batteries that when they go bad will cause the ECU to keep resetting and can cause the vehicle to not start, run rough and/or just shut off.
