Default 2000 motor into a 1999

is there any difference in the motor from 2000 to a 99, is it a plug and play deal? i have a friend that found a 2000 motor with 58,000 miles on it and his 99 is gonna need some work, just wanted to know if this was an easy swap? will everything plug right in?
any help would be great THX

Well the 2000's went to coil packs, and your friend's 99 has a distributor. So you will have to do something with that. Also, you might need to swap out some sensors and the wiring harness.

However, the most important thing to note here, is that the 2000 and 2001 4.0's had the 0331 head casting, which is prone to cracking. I would suggest fixing what's wrong with the 99, or finding a non-2k+ motor to swap into it.

All you have to do is put the motor in the 1999 and use all of its goodies sensors etc onto the 2000 motor, put the distributor in the hole where the cam sensor was and so on.One thing I would really think of doing is buying an after market head to replace the one on the 2000 block. This is why, from mid 1999 -01 jeep had a bad head casting. So if you get an after market head now you wont have a headache later, when it cracks. Any after market head casting# will be fine as long as its aftermarket or a revised head casting.Good luck and you wont have any problems.

the motor is the same.

put the sensors from the '99 on it, bolt it in. you *may* have to put the '99's exhaust manifold on it..
