Please explain I am curious about how you have came up with this BS.
Keep in mind I've been a service writer tire shops for about 8 years now an I've ran 31x 10.50 BFG A/T's, 33x12.50 GY MTR's, 35x12.50 GY MTR's on my YJ that was a DD an I have never hydro planed at all even when I jumped from a 31 to 33 ! the Tread void is larger on a 12.5" wide tire than a 10.5" wide tire thus more area for water to be channeled to the outside of the tread, Not to mention a larger contact patch !

Those iceland flares look awsome.I need to find a set.
Here's what I'd do-trade for the 33's then trade the 33's for a set of 31's.
I ran 31's for 9 months thought I need to run 33's for offroad so I got a set from my dads house & cut to make them fit.I went from 300 miles to a tank on the 31's to 200 miles on the 33's.I undersatand the speedo is off some but not THAT much, radar trap verified.Plus, pulling hills @ 3K rpm's gets old.
I do agree looks cool as hell but NOT enough to justify the price of the fuel.
3.5 in. of lift & 31's looks real nice.

I run 31x9.50 on my stock alloys with no lift and rub the control arms just a tad at full lock. I don't imagine it getting much better with a lift.
Just to explain the hydroplaning issue... wider tires equals less weight per square inch so, yes 12.50's will hydroplane sooner than 10.50's. However, sane driving counteracts hydroplaning no matter the tire.

Wider Tires Hydroplane at Lower Speeds
Great info guys, I am running a 3.5-4" of lift w/ 31" tires. I am dead set on 33x10.5x15 when my BFGs run out of tread.
As for the statement below, you are right if you are referring to 33x10.5x15 or similarly narrow tires but most 33" tires are wider then 10.5". A wider tire = more tire to road contact = you hydroplane at lower speeds +- some other variables. Think of your tire as a water ski, the wider the water ski the slower the boat has to go before you over come the evil force of gravity and start to "hydroplane" on the surface of the water. I don't feel like writing a dissertation on it so please take the work of an engineer.
