Default 2000 XJ HVAC Issue

Have a 2000 XJ with some hvac issues. I have no fan speed at all.

I did some research and found that it could be any of four issues. Fuses, blower motor, resistor, or the climate control panel.

I checked the fuses and it's all good. Pulled the blower motor out and hooked it up to a power source and it turned just fine. Replaced the resistor and bought a used, but tested, switch panel. Still have no luck with getting any kind of fan speed.

Is there something else it could be that I'm missing? Thanks.

Did you check the wiring and connectors? A bad fan will melt the wiring to the resistor and all that and on a 20-ish year old vehicle, you will find brittle plastic, corrosion in the connectors, etc.

Go to www.cruiser54.com/?page_id=365 and get the technical manual PDF for your XJ and take a look at the wiring diagram and you can start testing.

The more I work on the Jeep the more I realize that the wiring is old and brittle.

What I ended up doing is running a wire to give power to the blower motor. I'm not an expert by any means, but I feel that I did it correctly.

I plugged into the interior fuse box and spliced into the blower motor plug's power line. It runs well on all speeds, and it seems that I don't have any issues with wires getting too hot.

Nice!! Glad to hear you got it working correctly.

I feel like Chrysler really went cheap on the wiring in the 97+ Era Jeeps. My TJ was like that - the wiring all seemed error prone and the electrical was poorly designed.

On my 95 and from my Dad's 94 when he had it, the wiring seems so much sturdier - I mean, it's a 20 year old vehicle, so I wouldn't call it "great", but it seems like it was better material, better or more resilient design, etc...
Just my perception on it.
