Default 2001 cherokee connector hanging loose in engine

OK, don't know if this is correct place or not. Recently purchased 2001 Jeep Cherokee and just noitced a connector and mounting bracket hanging on right side of engine block from wire bundle? It looks to have numbers 56041889AA on "resistor" with metal tab with hole. Looking at engine diagrams it looks to be be C103 or C104 or C102.

I think what you are describing is the ignition coil capacitor.

There should be a stud (or hole where it belongs) on the right side of the engine, forward of the oil dipstick tube, that that metal tab with a hole in it would mount.

Here's a pic of it:

Default loose hanging electrical component right side engine

Thanks. Did more investigating and found it to be OEM pn 56041889AA. As I found it dangling loose in engine conpartment does it need to be mounted (your pic) or can it remain hanging loose? Question..... does it need to be grounded to engine.

Chrysler is a real trip!

The 01 Jeep XJ parts catalog lists the Capacitor as part number 56041396AA (see pic).

Going to a Mopar parts online store it says 56041396AA has been superseded by 56028644AC, which is called an "ignitor" for a 4.7 L engine in an 04 GC.

The same online store shows 56041889AA as an "Ignitor" for a 4.7 L engine in an 06 GC.

Take your pic of part numbers I guess.

In any case, there have been a few posters on the Jeep forums wondering about this capacitor, most of which described it as not being hooked up, and not having any influence on their ignition system.

I can't find any data pertaining to the capacitor but my guess is that it may be for radio interference suppression.

Only thing I could suggest is that you hook it up (if the harness will reach) just to keep the electrical system OEM.

Note that I revised my pic of the capacitor to reflect the parts catalog number.
