I came close to buying a 2000 XJ 4 years ago that had a known leaking heater core.
The guy dropped out of contact for a while, and sold it before I could manage to get ahold of him. He was actually acting as an agent for someone else. The Jeep wasn't his.
I'm glad I didn't get it. The blown heater core was probably a result of an overheating engine with a cracked 0331 head.
If I was ever to buy a 2000-01, I wouldn't want to spend over $1,000 for a clean one, and also have an extra couple of extra thousand in the bank.
Actually, I would probably end up buying a *gag* Liberty around an '05-07 model with a 3.7L and 4X4.

I did do some research on the CRD several months ago, because I was intrigued by it.
According to the reviews I read, it is a noisy engine with not much better mileage than the 3.7L. It's kind of slow. When you factor in the increased costs to buy and maintain, plus higher prices for fuel, you just don't come out.
It's definitely not like a Mercedes diesel.
My daughter's '06 65th Anniversary Grand Cherokee full time 4 X 4 has the 3.7L in it. It is smooth, quiet, and has all the power you need.

Careful what you say lol, the WK 3.0 CRD does have a Benz diesel in it. Great fuel economy but the emissions system is ridiculous. DPF in passenger automobiles just doesn't make any sense.
